Sardinia
Monday 4 August 2008We are from Italy and like our country but we like Sardinia vey much. Italy is a very beautiful country but Sardinia has an extra something.
Round every bend or corner there is the expectation of a new breathtaking landscape, a wall painting (murales), a flock of sheep in the street with its threatening dog, a Nuragic presence, a white sandy beach, a little shop of Sardinian handicrafts…
We live in Piedmont and went to Sardinia for our holidays five times in eight years.
Why all this love for Sardinia? It’s difficult to set a list of priorities for us.
We may choose Sardinia so frequently because we have the opportunity to spend our holidays in close contact with a fierce, wild nature and with an extraordinary sea or because we can taste very good typical dishes.
Besides this land offers different historical-geographic excursions or archaeological visits and other activities for people who like sport: trekking, sailing, climbing, windsurf, horse-riding and diving.
Finally we also like Sardinian people very much; they are very kind!
Certainly Sardinia is a land of marked contrasts. Its glamour is in these contrasts!
The high rocky coast that suddenly opens in extraordinary inlets before the eyes.
The white sand against the blue sea.
Old women, strictly dressed in black included the headscarf, that are at the head of modern minimarkets.
Most of the locals that use computers and surf the Net much better than the other Italians; you have to consider that only half the Italians surf the Net.
Photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the buildings, separate collection of household waste and … immemorial folk customs revived every year for Carnival, Christmas, Easter …
We begin our posts about Sardinia from Alghero.
